The ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ERCA), a key institution in regulating competition within the member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), held a significant strategic retreat at the AbCa’s Creek Lodge in Kasagne Village, Foni District from 17-21 December 2024. This event aims to enhance organizational efficiency, improve team cohesion, and equip staff members with the tools needed to address the challenges of fostering a healthy competitive environment in the region.
The primary objective of this retreat was to improve internal coordination and strengthen staff capacities. ERCA seeks to become a more efficient and productive organization while consolidating interpersonal relationships among team members. Key priorities include better synchronization of activities, a deeper understanding of strategic and operational plans, and the adoption of practical tools to optimize time management and prioritization.
Participants are exploring innovative approaches to reinforce ERCA’s organizational structure. Practical workshops clarify roles and responsibilities while identifying concrete solutions to enhance overall productivity. This proactive approach aligns the organization with the increasing demands of competition regulation and the dynamic economic landscape in the region.
Beyond the technical aspects, the retreat emphasized a strong human dimension. Team-building activities to foster a spirit of cooperation and trust—essential elements for smooth and harmonious collaboration. These interactions lay the foundation for a working environment where each member feels valued and motivated to contribute to the organization’s collective success.
Through a holistic approach, ERCA is transforming this retreat into a strategic lever. It reflects a long-term vision that positions the Authority as a key player in promoting fair business practices and protecting consumers across the West African region.
This retreat allows ERCA to strengthen its capabilities, prepare for future challenges, and consolidate its role within ECOWAS. This strategic event demonstrates the Authority’s commitment to evolving in a complex environment while remaining steadfast in its mission to ensure fair competition and foster harmonious economic development in West Africa.
