The Technical Assistance Mission under the EU Multi-Annual Action Plan for Sub Saharan Africa concluded a four-day working visit to Banjul, Republic of The Gam-bia to discuss with ERCA and National stakeholder on competition and Consumer product safety.

The Technical Assistance Mission under the EU Multi-Annual Action Plan for Sub Saharan Africa concluded a four-day working visit to Banjul, Republic of The Gambia to discuss with ERCA and National stakeholder on competition and Consumer product safety from the 14td to 18th July 2025, in Banjul, Republic of The Gambia.

 The meeting which was facilitated by ERCA provided opportunity for the delegation to hold meetings with key National stakeholders on competition and consumer protection to among other things, exchange views on national and regional priorities in the area of competition, consumer protection and product safety, present the key objectives and implementation approach to the action plan as well as explore avenues for technical collaboration and capacity support for the Gambia national institutions through a regional initiative.

The Executive Director of ERCA, Dr. Simeon K. Koffi, on behalf of the management of the ECOWAS Commission extended warm greetings to the delegation and presented the legal and regulatory framework governing the mandate of ERCA and the initiatives taken in the implementation of the Community Competition Rules (CPRs). The ED apprised the delegation on the collaborative mechanisms that exists between ERCA and National, regional and international Authorities on competition and consumer protection and pointed out the challenges especially in terms of capacity building and advocacy.

Mr. Raymond Assoukou KRIKPEU, Head of the mission, expressed the thanks and appreciation of his delegation for the facilitation work carried out by ERCA on the  successful accomplishment of the mission which had accorded them the opportunity to engage directly  and take stock of the view of the various national stakeholders including the Ministries of Trade, Justice, Gambia Competition  and Consumer Protection Commission (GCCPC), Consumer Associations and The Gambia Bar Association as well as the EU delegation in The Gambia.

He underscored the importance of the engagements which will help them in the implementation of the EUAction plan in support of sub-Saharan Africa on competition and consumer product safety at a tune of EURO 5million covering over a period of three years.
