EYSDC sponsored Under-13 Open Lawn Tennis Tournament in Banjul

ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Centre (EYSDC) in collaboration with ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ERCA) sponsored a two-day open Lawn Tennis tournament organised by a retired Lawn Tennis champion Mr.Daniel Able-Thomas in Banjul, The Gambia.

The tournament which covered both double and single players, was targeted at budding tennis player of 13 years and under, was held at the National Stadium in Bakau.

The final was held on Sunday 25 February 2025 and graced by high-ranking dignitaries including the Executive Director of ERCA Dr. Simeon K. Koffi, President of Gambia Lawn Tennis Association, Head of French diplomatic mission to the Gambia, Local tennis enthusiasts, parents of players and staff of ERCA.

Speaking to reporters at the presentation of trophies, the organiser of the event thanked EYSDC and ERCA for the sponsorship and pointed out that this tournament was intended to stimulate interest in tennis among the young players as a means of developing and promoting the game in the country.

The Executive Director on his part thanked the organiser of tournament and expressed optimism that the display of talent and interest demonstrated by the young players suggests a bright future of the game of lawn tennis in The Gambia and this will undoubtedly encourage the continued collaboration of ECOWAS and its affiliates.

The final was a thrilling and exciting encounter and wrapped up with the presentation of cash prizes, medals and certificates to participants.
